Ultrasonic
welding
of
plastic
is
an
industrial
process
by
which
two
plastic
component
parts
are
welded
together
with
high-frequency
sound.
The
sound
source
is
a
customized
steel
sonotrode,
which
transfers
the
vibrations
to
one
of
the
component
parts,
and
this
forwards
to
the
joint
of
both
pieces.
Friction
between
the
two
components
causes
both
components
to
locally
melt
and
connect.
The
joint
of
both
components
are
durable
and
very
solid.
The
process
is
used
for
merging
larger
quantities
of
smaller
pieces
where
the
use
of
screws
or
glue
would
be
irrational,
inadequate
or
even
impossible.
